A Lifetime Of Experience
FÆRD means journey or movement. Often to described as journey from one place to another. This journey is often an eventful or even dangerous one. I have worked as a product developer and designer over the last 30 years and have a lifetime of experience with manufacturing and designing high quality outdoor products. My work have brought me all over the world, but for the last 15 years I have spend a lot of my time in Asia, with close proximity to the factories I work with. As a person who has grown up in the forests and mountains of Norway and with all kinds of weather - we learn the hard way that functionality and quality is vital for any outdoor product. Traveling around Asia on train or by air visiting factories has developed the interest of the optimal backpack for travel, hiking and photography. Through necessity, I have also become a keen student of the art of carry-on luggage and gate/boarding etiquette. There are no lack of backpacks witch aims to fulfil these requirement, but few if none have ticked all the boxes for me. So with this in mind FÆRD is here and this is my take on a travel, hiking, everyday and photography backpack. For 1-2 days hiking, travel (carry-on friendly) and photography, I’ve wanted to develop a backpack that tries to find the balance between durability, weight and functionality. FÆRD Mod. 1/40 is a 40 liter backpack optimized to work with or without Camera Blocks and/or Packing Blocks to deliver a versatile, light system ready for travel and everyday use and to give active photographers a sturdy alternative that can tackle most conditions. It is a small ecosystem of products that have made my travel days for the last 16 months easier and more comfortable. It is developed in close cooperation with my factory friends in Asia and we are proud of the product we are about to introduce to the marked through KICKSTARTER.

My go to backpack when out on my bike is an Osprey Zealot 15L. When I need to bring more the Mod. 1/40 is perfect. I normally use the big Camera Block and still have more than enough space for other stuff and a hydration reservoir. When I need to bring a tripod I store it in the front pocket, with two legs in the pocket. No need to secure the tripod more than what the elastic pocket does. I use the hip belt, but leave the compression straps home. The Mod. 1/40 is as nimble and comfortable as my smaller Osprey pack and with the added space and safe storage for my camera equipment.
